Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains what personal data Rateweb collects when you use this website, how and why we use it, who we share it with, and the rights you have. South Sudan does not yet have a comprehensive data protection statute — a Data Protection Bill has been announced but is not yet in force — so we handle personal data in line with good international data-protection practice and the applicable provisions of South Sudanese law, including the Cybercrimes and Computer Misuse Provisional Order 2021. We will update this policy as the law develops.
Last updated: 19 July 2026.
Who we are
Rateweb is an independent personal-finance comparison and education platform serving South Sudan. We are the controller responsible for the personal data described here. If you have any question about this policy or how your data is handled, please contact us.
What we collect
- Information you give us. If you create an account, save comparisons, set a rate alert, subscribe to updates, submit an enquiry form or contact us, we collect the details you provide — such as your name, email address and the content of your message or request.
- Lead and application details. If you choose to enquire about a product (for example a loan) through one of our forms, we collect the information you enter so it can be passed to the relevant provider you asked to be connected with.
- Usage and device data. Like most websites, we automatically collect limited technical information — such as your browser type, approximate location, the pages you view and how you arrived — through cookies and analytics, to keep the site working and improve it.
How we use your data
- To provide the site and the features you ask for — accounts, saved items, rate alerts and comparison tools.
- To respond to your enquiries and, where you have asked us to, to connect you with a product provider.
- To send you updates or marketing only where you have consented, and you can withdraw that consent at any time.
- To measure and improve the site and understand which content and partnerships are useful.
- To keep the site secure, prevent fraud and abuse, and meet our legal obligations.
We rely on your consent, the performance of a service you have requested, and our legitimate interest in running and improving Rateweb, as the bases for this processing.
Cookies and analytics
We use essential cookies to make the site work, and — with your consent — analytics and advertising cookies (including third-party tools such as web analytics and advertising pixels) to understand usage and measure the performance of our partnerships. You can accept or decline non-essential cookies through the consent banner, and manage cookies in your browser at any time.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal data. We share it only:
- With a provider you asked us to connect you to — for example, when you submit a loan enquiry, the details you entered are sent to that provider so they can respond.
- With service providers who help us run the site (such as hosting, email delivery and analytics), under agreements that require them to protect your data.
- Where the law requires it, or to protect our rights, users and the public.
Many of the services we rely on process data outside South Sudan; where they do, we take steps consistent with good data-protection practice to keep your data protected.
How long we keep it
We keep personal data only for as long as we need it for the purpose it was collected, or as long as the law requires, after which it is deleted or anonymised.
Your rights
We extend these rights to you as a matter of policy, and will honour them as the law develops: you can ask us to access the personal data we hold about you; correct it if it is wrong; delete it; object to or restrict certain processing; withdraw consent you have given; and receive a copy of data you provided in a portable form.
If you hold a Rateweb account, you can export or delete your data yourself from the privacy settings in your dashboard, and update your marketing choices there at any time. For any other request, please contact us and we will action it.
Keeping your data safe
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal data against loss, misuse and unauthorised access. No online service can be guaranteed completely secure, but we work to protect your information and to limit what we collect to what we actually need.
Children
Rateweb is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time — and we expect to, as South Sudan's data protection law is enacted. When we do, we will change the "last updated" date above, and material changes will be made clear on the site.
